Sugar cookie recipe
The yield of this recipe is 12 regular size cookies or six big cookies. The recipe calls for the following ingredients:
½ cup, or a stick, of room temperature, unsalted butter
One cup of flour
⅓ cup of granulated sugar
½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
½ tablespoon of milk (optional)
First, preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, use a hand mixer to blend the butter and sugar until it is a grainy consistency. Then, add the flour to the mix and blend until the dough sticks together. If the dough is a bit dry, add the milk, or substitute the milk for water. Blend the ingredients until the dough is a thick consistency and it sticks to itself. After that is all blended, scoop out a ball of dough and form it to the desired shape and size. Put parchment paper on a baking sheet and place the dough on the parchment paper. Sprinkle sugar on top of the dough, then bake for 13 to 15 minutes.
While the cookies are in the oven, start on the icing. The icing ingredients include:
⅓ cup powdered sugar
One tablespoon of milk
½ tablespoon of preferred extract, like almond or vanilla extract (optional)
¼ tablespoon of room temperature butter
First, mix the powdered sugar and the butter, then add everything else and mix until it is a smooth, thick consistency. If desired, add food coloring or sprinkles.
After taking the cookies out of the oven, decorate them or leave them plain, then enjoy with a glass of milk.
