During the 2022-2023 school year, BHS saw many eras of fashion along with other must-haves. Clothing such as the Lululemon Scuba jacket, Ugg Tasman slippers, and On Cloud shoes were seen in the halls.
Trends like those are gone as fast as they appear, with new ones taking their place. For example, the Hydro Flask water bottles were wanted the most for about three years before the Stanley Cup took its place as the best. Not all trends leave as quickly, the 2023 trends for back-to-school will likely stick around for a while.
looking at what is beginning to rise in popularity on TikTok can give an idea of what may be seen at Bismarck High. Platform Ugg slippers have started to pop up on TikTok, with many looking for the perfect dupe or knock-off version for the original. Common items that are seen around the school are often seen in other schools around the country, this gives an idea of what may become popular throughout BHS as they are seen on social media.
Platform shoes have been a staple for teens, and do not look like they are going anywhere anytime soon. Converse has been the brand that is worn throughout the halls the most, but with Uggs gaining popularity once again, platform Ugg slippers may be what is featured in the halls this school year.
From skinny jeans to mom jeans, jeans have always been in style, although the styles have changed. Wide-leg jeans are the newest style of pants that are becoming popular among high school students as more and more begin to wear them. Last school year, the Zara wide-leg pants were seen on TikTok and wanted in every color available. For the 2023-2024 school year, styles like this are likely to stick around for a while longer.
Movies are another way that trends can start along with social media and simply getting inspiration from peers. Barbie brought new style trends with its pink colorful aesthetic. This movie has created a new trend of all things pink, from sweatshirts to shoes and anything else that can be made in a bright color. Taking inspiration from others gives teens the motivation to branch out and try or wear new things that they would not normally pick out.
It is not quite soon enough to tell what will be popular for 2024 as lots of the trends from last school year will spill over to the next. Students are still carrying around Stanley cups and wearing the attire that was seen in the school prior to this year. As the year goes by, Bismarck High will continue to filter through many different brands.
