Students swarm to the doors to the kitchen to try and get first pick on the food and ala carte items. They type in their lunch number and quickly shuffle away to their seats with their friends. There was seemingly no problem with this up until this year. There is a new system in the lunch tills that is harder for the lunch workers to use. Before, the lunch workers just had to press a button that named the price of whatever the student was buying. $2.55, $1.75, $0.75, and any other price that is attributed to a product in the lunch line. This year, the system works differently. There is a one button and a two button. Each one corresponds to a different lunch. Any à la carte items are listed on the till, and whoever is using it has to search for the name of the item that a student is purchasing which takes a little more time than it would have with the old system. Because of this, the lunch workers are having students wait at the counter so all items that the student has bought can be accounted for. Many students seem to have problems with this for some reason. I do not personally see the problem with this. A couple seconds out of someone’s day will not harm anyone. People are just impatient.
The lunch workers work very hard to serve us food. There are massive amounts of students in this school and almost each and every one of them eats here. They cook the food, they serve every student that is in line, they clean so many trays, and they are genuinely nice people. Whatever issue one might have with having to wait for them to count items isn’t the lunch worker’s problem.
If it is really that annoying to stand for two seconds then the best solution is to just not eat at school. Many people eat at different restaurants in the southern part of Bismarck as they are very close to the school. Some drive themselves, some get rides from friends, and others get food in the morning and save it for lunch. If one does not have a car, there is a gas station and a McDonald’s right down the street. If someone does not want school lunch and does not like the gas station or Mcdonald’s then they are simply out of luck and that is a problem they must solve on their own. People cannot really afford to be picky in this situation, especially if they do not have a car.
Students should not be complaining about waiting a couple extra seconds to scurry to their seats. It isn’t as time consuming as it sounds. The lunch line should not be an issue, just let the lunch workers do their job and deal with it. If one cannot, then they must figure something out or not eat lunch. Complaining without thinking of a solution is just whining.
