October 31st has many traditions and activities that lead up to the day itself that add the excitement of Halloween. Many households take part in decorating their homes for the ghoulish season, but Skyler Simosko and his family take it to the next level.
“I love decorating for halloween,” Bismarck High School Student Skyler Simosko said.
More popular decorations consist of cobwebs and pumpkins, but Skyler’s decorations include life size statues portraying villainizing characters from horror films. Each large figurine is different with variations of movements and voices. A total of 45 statues, each with individual maintenance, makes a busy Halloween for Skyler and his team.
“Each statute is unique in their own way,” Simosko said.
Trick or treating looks a little different at the Simosko house. Due to the fear and surprise existing in the front yard, kids are more lively and excited to visit. The Simoskos have created a fun and over the top experience for each trick or treater.
“I like making a display so other people can see it and have fun,” Simosko said.
Intriguingly enough, the statues are not the coolest part of the Simoskos Halloween season. With the statues proudly displayed on the night of October 31st, Skyler and his family are capable of generating donations in which they give away to a charity they feel is most in need.
With just a simple sign and ask of favor, the Simoskos motivate neighbors and trick or treaters to lend a helping hand. With the help of caring neighbors, Skyler and his family are able to show their own generosity.
“In 2019 we donated to the Spirit of Children, same in 2020 and 2021,” Simosko said. “We’ve donated half to Sanfords Childrens Hospital, and the other half to Spirit of Children, and my freind Jordan takes care of that.”
There is no doubt, the Simoskos house generates the most attention in the neighborhood. With slow drivers passing by to take a look, and extra long visits from kids in costumes, the house is one happy exhilarating place to be during the night of October 31st.
“There’s other houses that also do displays,” Simosko said. “But I have to say ours is probably the most decorated one in our neighborhood.”
