Students in school have to read books that they are not interested in, making school less intriguing to attend.
Most students understand that some important books are required to be read at a certain grade level. This makes it dreadful for students to “look forward to” the upcoming school years. Schools should either give students options for what to read, or have students pick a book and have the teacher approve it.
If students have a say in what book they read, it makes them feel like they are more involved in their learning, making them more intrigued to go to school, learn and read. Giving students more options also makes a flexible and free environment, letting students easily adjust to when assignments are due.
Reading is also perceived differently to a student if they get to choose what they get to read. A lot of the time, a student’s lack of excitement when it comes to reading can come from being forced to read books that they are not interested in.
If students at a young age can start choosing books to read, then they can grow more and expand their interests beyond just reading.
Reading is an essential part of developing one’s mind. It can improve a student’s focus, memory, empathy and communication skills. Reading can reduce stress and improve an individual’s vocabulary. This is extremely beneficial to a student’s education.
Students might be more enthusiastic about reading and coming to class if they are given more freedom when it comes to their education and the literature they are consuming.
