Annie Clark, known professionally as St. Vincent, an American musician and song artist. She is not entirely well known, but received three Grammy Awards; two for best alternative music album in 2015 and 2019, and one for best rock song in 2019.
In January of 2020, St. Vincent produced a movie titled The Nowhere Inn which was released with a soundtrack of the same name. The movie follows Annie Clark, also known as St. Vincent, and Carrie Brownstein in their attempt to make a documentary about St. Vincent and who she is offstage. Both strive to make the film as authentic as possible, but Annie begins to try and make her life seem more interesting in many odd ways. As Carrie tries to understand what Annie is trying to do, Annie continues to show more of her St. Vincent persona rather than herself. The movie ends with a song and a scene showing exactly what Annie had in mind for the movie.
The movie is shot like a documentary would be, with concert clips and interviews, but the narrative it tells is fictional. It shows Annie’s want for authenticity, but it also shows her slow descent into rockstar phoniness. She staged a fake break up and a fake family to make her film more interesting.
“I know who I am, what does it matter if anyone else does!” – St. Vincent
4/ 5 stars, it was a great movie, but the story felt a little slow and felt like it dragged on in some parts.
