With the first semester coming to an end, students are stressed. Some students have to take a final for many different reasons like attendance or college credit classes.
For college classes students should take a final, because they are getting a college credit and should have to do what any college student would have to do.
Students should not be required to take a final if they have an A. If their attendance is bad and they have an A, clearly they have stayed caught up and been responsible when they have missed. They have already proven they know the information, which makes a final totally useless. To have students revisit all of the information that they previously have learned and tested on is redundant. When students have worked hard to complete assignments and study, with sometimes weekly tests on their knowledge, it seems like finals are just a test of total memory and not as much skill. Things like remembering all the presidents in order or all the amendments of the constitution are not typically remembered after high school, making the final ultimately useless in that sense.
Teachers all weigh their finals differently and with that being said a final can totally change their grade. A C is the average grade for a student and if a final is worth twenty percent of their grade it could very well make a dent in their grade.
