Dual credit classes are a way for students to earn a college credit while still being in high school. Classes such as English, Science, Math, and even speech are all classes that offer dual credit. Dual credit classes give students a head start on their generals in college. Dual credit seems to be scary to some students but for some it is a next step to their education.
“I am currently in 3 dual credit classes,” Bismarck High School student Conner Harvison said. With dual credit being offered to students in their sophomore, junior and senior years, it can give students a lot of time to earn college credits over their high school years.
College can be a big step for students after high school, and many students tend to think that dual credit classes in high school are often looked at as challenging, and more work. Though taking a dual credit may be thought to be harder than other classes, it is the complete opposite.
“The only added thing is the final exam at the end of the semester, just pay attention and do your work and you’ll be fine,” Harvison said.
Students who enroll in a dual credit class are required to do the exact same thing as the other students who are not taking the class as dual credit. The only difference is that dual credit classes have a final that you are required to take at the end of the semester.
“The class is the same, the only added thing is having to take a final at the end of the semester,” Harvison said.
There are so many opportunities that come from taking dual credit classes in high school. It gives students a headstart on many different college classes, it also prepares students and gives them a look at what a college class would likely look like. Although there are so many different perks to being enrolled in a dual credit class, a very little amount of students are enrolled in dual credit classes.
“It’s a free college credit,” Harvison said.
