Summer school has always been a kid’s worst nightmare, and it probably always will be. Throughout a student’s 4 years of high school, they are offered summer school to get a head start on a certain subject such as English, Math, and Science. Although this may seem like a good deal, it takes up a good amount of time during the summer that could be spent sleeping in, hanging with friends and just not having to worry about school.
Summer school starts at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 12 p.m. Summer school goes for four weeks long, and is split into two semesters. The first semester is the first two weeks, and the other two weeks is the second semester. Students pick a class that they want to do to either get a head start on the subject, or get another off period the next year.
With summer school taking up a third of the summer, it takes away all of those mornings and nights to spend time with friends and family, go for a bike ride, go golfing, go fishing and go on the river. Summer school takes away a student’s only time in the year to get away from school and all the stress along with it.
Although summer school can get a person an extra 1.0 or 0.5 credit going into the next year, there are better ways to spend one’s summer than dealing with school.
