I didn’t expect very much going into IHOP. I thought it would be the same middle-of-the-road food that similar restaurants have, which always looks leagues better in the commercials than it does in person. However, IHOP makes a good first impression. Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted and seated immediately. The building has a nice, modern look, with lots of bright colors and earthy-feeling brick walls. The tables, floors and chairs were all clean. The restaurant has an expansive menu, including everything from burgers and sandwiches to waffles and omelets. I was able to put an order in for a beverage fairly quickly upon being seated and ordered my meal of country-fried steak and eggs, paired with hashbrowns and two pancakes, shortly after. I ordered a hot chocolate and was disappointed to learn that even though it cost ten cents more than a fountain drink, the serving was roughly half the size. Seeing this next to a fountain drink makes the hot chocolate seem like it is a poor use of money. After waiting a rather long time, the food arrived at my table. I found that the country-fried steak that I ordered was sizable and tasty, that my scrambled eggs and hash browns were dry and flavorless, and that the pancakes were beautifully soft, fluffy, and delicious. There’s a reason that their pancakes are what IHOP is known for. It was by far the best part of the meal. Before I got the chance to finish eating my food, the server brought out my ticket, not bothering to ask if I needed anything else. It could have been that their shift was ending, but they seemed in a rush to have me out of the restaurant. This was a little strange, but was not too big of a deal. My total was about 19 dollars. Overall, IHOP is comparable to other breakfast restaurants such as Denny’s or Perkins. They all have fairly cheap, middling food and are popular locations for high school theater casts and bands to attend after performances. If a person were to ask which restaurant of the three they should go to, I would tell them to go to whichever they are closest to. They are all fairly tasty.
