Valentine’s Day does not only have to be celebrated by couples. People who are not in a romantic relationship should be more than welcome to celebrate the holiday. Valentine’s Day is more than smooches and love cards, it’s about showing appreciation to those you love, which can include friends, family, coworkers, teachers, etc. Why make February 14th less enjoyable for those who are single?
More people celebrating means more appreciation for all kinds of people, which can result in large numbers of people being more happy. It will be a much more exciting holiday if everyone has something to celebrate rather than a chunk of us being happy with our significant other and another chunk of us being mopey and depressed all day. Those mopey and depressing feelings people can acquire on Valentine’s Day are unnecessary and easily removable.
Valentine’s Day used to be a time to give treats and be kind to each other when we were younger, so why can’t it still be that way? The older we’ve gotten, the less fun it’s become. The 14th is becoming boring for older single people, let’s reverse that. The lovey-dovey holiday does not need to be solidified to only couples. Romance does not only apply to couples, we can desire emotional connection with anyone. The relationships in our lives are all different, so why not celebrate all of them?
If you are feeling lonely this February, don’t stress it, celebrate the amazing people you already have in your life. There is no need to dwell on not having a boyfriend or girlfriend.
