The class of 2025 is diving into a new hype, senior assassin. This organized game has quickly become the latest obsession among Bismarck High School’s senior class and has the potential to become a yearly tradition for upcoming classes.
71 Seniors paid $10, creating a cumulative prize of $710. The cash reward will be given to the student or team who survives the longest.
“You get people that you have to hunt down or shoot with a water gun, and you can be safe if you wear floaties or goggles, and every week you get new people,” Game organizer Chayce Hoerner said.
Seniors are participating in teams of two or playing solo, trying to eliminate the weekly targets outside of school. Players are given their target’s location through the Splashin app. Rules and boundaries were placed to make sure the game was respectful to the surrounding schools and the public.
“We said nothing in school and nothing in the school parking lots. We made other schools and workplaces off limits,” Hoerner said.
The class group chat sets the rules and regulations inside the Senior Assassin app. The seniors discuss what they feel is right, and Hoerner makes the final decision. Attempted eliminations are also judged before they are approved and posted on the BHS senior assassin Instagram page. The Instagram page is used to keep the underclassmen involved with the game as well as the public, clarifying why they might be seeing more and more floaties and goggles being worn by the local seniors.
“We may not be able to get our targets, but if we’re always wearing goggles, no one will be able to get us,” Senior player Avery Prokop said.
The only time a player can get out while wearing goggles or floaties is during a purge day. Set off by the admin of the game, Hoerner selects one day of the week to be a purge day, and anyone can get anyone, no matter what they are wearing. An asset to purge day is the premium feature in the Splashin app. The premium feature allows competitors to see everyone’s location, not just their targets.
“It was more of an impulse buy, I just wanted to see everyone’s location,” Premium user Alexis Quale said.
The potential annual tradition is creating hype and interest among senior activities. Students can become more involved with their peers and create lasting memories as the game offers a fun and unique way to end high school.
