5 ‘9 middle hitter Jordyn Rood has spent her volleyball career accumulating athletic awards. She’s made 1st-team all-state, she’s been All-WDA twice and has varsity lettered every season since her freshman year.
Roods’ athletic success is rooted in her desire to give 100% in every performance, regardless of the time or circumstance. Not only does she rack up kills, she also motivates her teammates and provides calm, effective leadership.
“I always have a good attitude and try to make all of my teammates comfortable and confident while they’re on the court,” Rood said.
After graduation, Rood plans to study to be a sonographer at Bismarck State College, where she will also continue competing in Volleyball and Track. But for now, Rood is optimistic about her upcoming volleyball season. She is confident in her team’s ability to make it far in the state tournament.
“We will have lots of people playing new positions, so it may take a while to get used to them, but I think our team will find success in our grit and in our desire to win.”
Outside of volleyball, Rood is active in numerous extracurricular activities. Not only does she dominate the volleyball court, but she also has accumulated awards in basketball, track and field, Choir, and National Honor Society. Rood also participates in the student council and in alcohol and tobacco prevention.
“I’m heavily involved in my school,” Rood said. “I find lots of joy in getting to know so many different types of people.”
Because of Rood’s determination, she often overworks her body. With injuries and overexertion, Rood can be seen in the trainers’ room often, seeking recovery and prevention.
“I’ve faced many injuries and overuse problems. I play two sports almost all year round, so my body is always fighting some sort of injury,¨ Rood explains. ¨I tell myself that every day I am making myself better and the outcome is worth it.”
Rood hopes to leave BHS as someone people can remember fondly. She hopes her effort to make a positive impact will leave a lasting effect.
“I want them to remember me as positive, outgoing and someone they can lean on.”
