This past year has been a whirlwind of new artists, music, and albums. New artists have risen to fame faster than previously because of TikTok. Celebrities switching career paths from acting to music, and artists creating new music have created lots of excitement.

Trends of 2022 went by fast, with new music sweeping by and becoming less and less popular every week since their release. According to Spotify, the most streamed artists for this year are Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift, Drake, The Weeknd, and BTS. Taylor Swift created a buzz with the release of album Midnights, as she held the title of number one most viral artist globally.

In the U.S., the most streamed albums were Un Verano Sin Ti by Bad Bunny, Harry’s House by Harry Styles, Dangerous: The Double Album by Morgan Wallen, Midnights by Taylor Swift, and SOUR by Olivia Rodrigo. These pieces of work are the albums of the year, each bringing different emotions out of their diverse listeners.

With Spotify Wrapped being released on November 30, 2022, everyone is taking a look at their top songs, and looking back at those musical memories from the past year. The top songs in the U.S. were “As It Was” by Harry Styles, “Heat Waves” by Glass Animals, “Bad Habit” by Steve Lacy, “Me Porto Bonito” by Bad Bunny feat. Chencho Corleon and “First Class” by Jack Harlow.

Tiktok is one of the most musical social media apps at the moment. Many influencers use it to promote their music, allowing their songs to gain popularity due to trends that are happening on the app. Tiktok released their own “year-end list” and announced that “Sunroof” by duo Nicky Youre & Dazy was the number one song on the app in the U.S. “Sunroof” was the song of the summer, bringing about many memories. The song was written in the spring of 2021 and was not planned to be anything big. There are now nearly eight million TikTok videos using the song. Many other artists look at TikTok as an opportunity to branch out and find success in the music industry.

Music has changed many times throughout the years, but one thing stays the same. It brings people together and brings out multiple emotions depending on the genre, artist, or speed of the song. The artists that shaped this year and are holding the spots of most streamed of 2022 deserve some recognition for the great things they are doing for the world, even if it seems simple.
