Around 100 students will be going to New York city. The trip will cost roughly over $3,000 for each student.
For many graduating seniors, this is one of their last memories of high school.
“I am really excited to see some of the greatest musicians of our country and to see what the world has to offer in New York City,” BHS senior Taylor Cavett said. “It will be a fun experience to end my senior year, and I am really thrilled to see some of the tourist spots.”
Cavett has been involved in music since she was in fourth grade and participates in both band and choir.
“I will get to enjoy great music, but it will also be an educational experience,” Cavett said. “I will mostly be with the choir, but I will also perform with the band.”
The music department has offered several fundraising opportunities.
“We have been selling chocolate, cookie dough, and butter braids,” Cavett said. “They are easy and successful to fundraise for.”
The music department goes on a trip every two years. Previously, they went on a cruise in the Bahamas.
“New York sounded really interesting because there’s a bunch of sightseeing and tourist things to do, such as Broadway, the harmonic orchestra and the 9/11 Memorial,” Cavett said.
The music department will start rehearsing at the beginning of May. The choir is going to get to sing at a few chapels, the national anthem at a Yankee baseball game, and some other locations.
“I love theater so much, and I am really looking forward to seeing Broadway,” BHS senior Reese Dever said.
Dever has been on multiple music trips, including the cruise trip, and has been in choir since her sophomore year.
“We can use some of the fundraiser money from our last trip if we have some left over,” Dever said. “The fundraisers from PushSave can raise money throughout the year, and it goes into an account you can use for music.”
The trip costs are divided into monthly payments.
“It will be cool to see what great things musicians can do and how their hard work pays off,” Cavett said.
