Patience, resilience and humility are all ways to describe team captain and right-defenseman Elias Johnson.
With a tough, disappointing season in his junior year, Johnson hopes to make a comeback and make it to WDA.
“I expect to make it to WDA with these guys,” Johnson continues, “I like where the program is headed, and we’ll worry about what’s after that when it comes.”
Johnson is feeling the pressure of his senior season, but is determined to make it memorable for himself, his teammates and his coach.
“In the past years, it’s been important to me to win, but it feels almost necessary now,” Johnson explained.
Over 15 years
of playing, Johnson has learned to perform in high-intensity situations. He overcame many obstacles by remaining humble and maintaining relationships.
“Hockey is such a physical game, but the hardest part was working on my mental game,” Johnson adds, “having a good attitude with teammates and coaches was really important over the years.”
Outside of high school athletics, Johnson competes for a club hockey league where he has played for several of its top teams.
Johnson’s biggest supporters are his family and friends, but his passion for the game roots from his relationship with his dad.
“I play hockey because my dad made me fall in love with the sport, and that hasn’t faded yet,” Johnson said.
